Moments after the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation in August to help save the jobs of 161,000 educators who had received pink slips, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter wrote on her Facebook page: “I am proud to have just voted for the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act. This legislation will prevent thousands of New Hampshire kids from losing their teachers.”

U.S. House Has Opportunity to Save Jobs. Will it?

For President Obama to sign into law a bill passed by the U.S. Senate last week saving 138,000 educators’ jobs in time for the start of the school year, the U.S. House must finalize that vote with its own. Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week called the House back to Washington to take the crucial final vote, which could come as early as Tuesday.
