Build Back Better negotiations enter new phase

President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are scaling back and refining the Build Back Better Act to win the near-unanimous support of congressional Democrats that is a must-have for passage—the Senate is split 50-50 and the margin in the House is nearly as narrow. With child care, education, health care, and more at stake, the Build Back Better Act is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make a real difference in the daily lives of students, educators, and families. Failure to act at this critical juncture—due to timidity or politically motivated delays—is not an acceptable option. Too much is at stake.

School modernization is among NEA’s top priorities for the bill. Public school facilities are the largest sector of public infrastructure spending—after roads and bridges—but we have allowed them to deteriorate. According to the 2021 State of Our Schools report, the annual funding gap is $85 billion. Some public school facilities are so poorly equipped or in such poor condition—too hot, too cold, or infested with vermin—they undermine student learning.

Other NEA priorities include expanding access to free school meals, investing in educator recruitment and retention to help diversify the profession, providing pathways to citizenship for Dreamers and other undocumented immigrants, and ensuring sufficient revenue to make long-overdue investments in our communities.

Email your senators and representative and urge them to enact President Biden’s plan to Build Back Better agenda.

  1. Republicans only want to keep the power and Money. They don’t seem to care about the country or the constituents. These greed mongers need to be voted out. How dare they filibustered the voting rights. Totally un-American and they should be publically shamed for doing so. My question to them is why do you stand in the way of progress and moving our country forward for the better? Answer GREED, MONEY, POWER! totally shameful!

    1. Great observation. How many houses do Pelosi, Schumer, Biden, Feinstein, and the rest all have? Whoops, I guess its just not the Republicans

  2. BANANA REPUBLICAN TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS WILL NEVER WORK !! THE SAD THING THE TALIBAN TAITORS(R) HAVE NO PLANS FOR ANYTHING! IF THEY DID THEY WOULD BE PROMOTING THEM INSTEAD OF FLAUNTING THEIR “BIG LIES”!

    1. I don’t like what the Republicans are up to either, but we won’t get their supporters to have a change of heart with name-calling and all-caps shouting.

  3. Has anyone watched Sleepy Joe over the recent past. It is not a ‘pass’ but it is clear that the only explanation for his behavior is dementia. Sad, but something must be done to regain control in the government. 2 more years of this guy will destroy the nation

    1. Hey MarineBob,
Let’s not call people names – that’s what we teach our children in schools. Name calling is a form of bullying. Let’s keep discussions on a higher plane. Also, since you seem not to be a medical professional, diagnosing someone you have no idea about medically is not very fair. My mom had dementia and you have no idea what it is.

      1. If not dementia, how does any sane person explain Sleepy’s behavior? Apparently you think he is that incompetent and out of touch with reality?

  4. Our children are our future. Education should be one of our priorities. Our schools have been neglected for too long. Investing in these communities will create a better environment for all. Please support this bill it will payoff in the long run.

  5. Again – they give millions of dollars to the top 1% but cannot help the middle to the lower class. The fact that the GOP would rather have poor people disappear. These people are greedy and hateful. So we need to rally and get these bills passed to help the 99% of Americans!

      1. Poor people paying zero tax when they can barely put food on the table doesn’t bother me, and it doesn’t mean they don’t still need help. Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk paying zero taxes when they’re getting rich off the labor of others, that’s what bothers me. They are the ones that need to be paying.
