NEA calls for immediate removal of President Trump

Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Mitch McConnell (R-KY), leaders of their respective caucuses, normally don’t agree on much. But they are of one mind when it comes to Donald Trump’s last-ditch attempt to stop Congress from certifying the victory of President-elect Joe Biden and the insurrection fueled by Trump’s seditious rhetoric. Totally unacceptable.

January 6 “will live forever in infamy,” Schumer said. “This temple to democracy was desecrated, its windows smashed, our offices vandalized.”

“The voters, the courts, and the states have all spoken,” McConnell said. “If this election were overturned by mere allegations from the losing side, our democracy would enter a death spiral.”

To protect our democracy, NEA is joining Democratic, Republican, business, and civil rights leaders in calling for Trump’s immediate removal from office.

“Our nation is based on a promise that every single person—Black, Latino/a/x, Asian, Native, White, regardless of wealth—can pursue a better tomorrow. That promise is in jeopardy because President Donald Trump and his allies refuse to accept the will of the people and have endangered Americans and American democracy,” said NEA President Becky Pringle.

In government and social studies classes, NEA members teach students about the Constitution and the duties of citizenship. They teach that our elections depend not only on citizens to exercise the right to vote, but also on our willingness to accept the results of elections. They teach that interested parties can and often do challenge election results. But once the challenges have been examined, those on the losing side concede defeat because they prize our democratic traditions over any single Election Day win or loss.

More fundamentally, we teach our children—even before they begin formal schooling—this basic concept of fair play: In any competition, someone wins and someone loses. Conveying this concept is challenging when our children are getting a lesson from some elected “leaders” in what NOT to do: Throw a temper tantrum, discredit the process, attempt to delay the inevitable, and if none of that works, sow as much discord as possible before you exit the field.

NEA has developed materials to help you talk to kids about the violent attempt to stop Congress from certifying that President-elect Joe Biden won the election. Check them out!

  1. To our Senator Kelly Loeffler,
There is no reason to continue to support Trump as you did in the General. He actually hurt your chances of winning our state with his constant whining about the fair election process we had on our state. He did nothing to help you so I suggest you do the same in return.

You much vote to remove this dangerous, demented and obviously very sick person from office.

May I also suggest you give Mitch McConnell a call. I think with your influence in financial circles he would listen to you above probably anyone else in the Senate.

    Thank you.

  2. NEA should also call for all legislators who voted to object to the electoral votes also be impeached or expelled for aiding and abetting the attempted coup.

  3. This is one of the few decisions the NEA leadership made that didn’t need consultation with the rank-and-file. The tyrant must be removed ASAP!

    1. I couldn’t agree more. I watched in horror and sadness as the mob descended upon the Capitol building. I watched Trump egg the crowd on and then he went to hide. This man has disgraced our country time and time again. I feel he deserves to be impeached but wish he had the backbone to resign only because we would not to fear his actions as President any more.

  4. The rest of the world is looking at us, and seeing the true America and how weak we are as a nation. The power in America should be shared and our children are watching us as we crumble as a nation. We are in trouble because of one weak individual and a bunch of entitled internal terrorist who care for no one but themselves in the name a god, not my God. This need to end without further bloodshed. We all deserve better then this. Our nation was supposedly founded under God and we all need to go back to the basics and treat others(any nationality) as we wish to be treated. Put a stop to Donald Trump now and impeach him today. He needs to be removed.

    1. He needs to be removed. President Trump does not fit to be a President, should have not been our President and we need him out as soon as possible.

    1. Please vote to remove Mr. Trump he has not been my president for four years. He can’t stay one more day. He is causing dioxin our country. It’s got to stop. Show our children what’s right.

  5. The people we saw destroying the capitol have too much anger to just go away on January 20. Trump must be impeached so he can never hold office again and be given the platform of public office to embolden those who share his disregard for the process of democracy.

  6. President Trump needs to be removed immediately, arrested and prosecuted. In addition Sen Hawley and Ted Cruz need to resign, charged and prosecuted.

  7. No one, including the president, should not get away with what they did at the Capitol! They are terrorists and should be treated as such. I don’t want to see a civil war break out because these people want to follow a mad man that didn’t even stand with them. He hid like a rat…a rat that he is. I have never been so ashamed of having a bad president as I am about this one (Trump).

  8. In November 2020 the United States held an election which was repeatedly tested in multiple courts throughout the nation. No court found evidence of fraud. To overturn the legal election of a US President and Vice President by brute force is not only unconstitutional but is an act of rebellion.

The US was founded by people who did not want the people’s will denied by violent force. As a veteran American History teacher and professor I suggest that those who support such force read US history and get the facts rather than depend on gossip and hearsay.

  9. I agree wholeheartdly with NEA and other fellow educators for the removal of Donald Trump. He needs to be held accountable for his actions and for the indivuduals who loss their lives. Donald Trump’s behavior undermines the Character Education and the Anti-Bullying Programs. A President is suppose to be a leader whose job is to help the American people not harm them.

  10. These armed insurgents, declaring a civil war, are a dangerous threat to democracy. Go after them like the domestic terrorist that they are. Use every means necessary to arrest & prosecute them as terrorist who attempted a coup on America.

  11. I see some people comparing the riot on Capitol Hill to BLM rallies. There is a major difference. This riot has been incited by the duly elected current President of the United States of America, from the highest office in the country, by spreading lies about voting security from WELL before the election on Nov 3. Then he has repeatedly (almost 450 times since Nov) spread unfounded claims of the vote being “Stolen” from him. These claims are not substantiated by anyone (Republican or Democrat) overseeing the election, including his pick for ensuring a safe and fair election on his cabinet.

This crowd came to hear the president, then their goal was to stop the confirmation of duly elected future president Joe Biden. They were not here to peacefully protest.

BLM was a peaceful protest, not by a national leader, but by those (Black and many other races) who see the travesty of hundreds of years of oppression. The violence has been denounced by everybody, including BLM, but some of the most devastating fires and violence were started by White Supremacists. In Minnesota, I personally saw a white man from Illinois hauling 3 dull black jeep like vehicles who was part of this. I took pictures of his license, and trailer hauling license and sent it to the proper authorities.

This president needs to go, and a message sent to all future presidents that there are standards to be held for the highest executive position in the USA.

  12. When Betsy DeVoss jumped (think RATS), though we were glad to see her go, we knew the ‘ship of state’ was in real trouble! Let’s hope the wannabee King Rat will follow her lead.

  13. Trump actually did it. He helped we Democrats to win the house, the senate, and the Presidency. He helped make America Great Again.

  14. I refuse to participate in the removal of our/my President. I will always vote in President Trump’s favor. If you guys have forgotten we live in a FREE country.

God bless America and President Trump!!!!❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️

    1. Fascism begins as a slow trickle, begins with the “Big Lie” as in Trump’s big lie and support from others. I will treat you the same….”When I win, it will be legit, But when you win, it will be rigged”. Trump, like so many fascists in history repeat this lie often enough so that folks like you believe it. He started it five years a go. Trump doesn’t not care for you nor America. 7 million more Americans have rejected Trumpism, the hatred, the white supremacy, rolling back rights for Americans while giving a green light to the further degradation of the natural world. We choose a plural society that respects all people not just religious bigots.

    2. He is a cowardly liar and a serious threat to our nation and democracy!! I hope you can someday emerge from the spell cast on you. Try a steady dose of reality.

    3. Hey, Tracy, you have been drinking the Koolaid too long! Wake up and see how this demonic creature has tried to destroy America. He should have been impeached and removed from office long ago. Now his words and actions have cut his own throat, and thrown him out of politics forever. Perhaps you will be able to watch him on the reality show “Orange Is The New Black,” when New York sends him to jail!

  15. I agree. He needs to be removed and kept from public office permanently for the safety of our country’s citizens and our democracy.

  16. 10 days Trump could do a lot of damage to our country. Pence will not use the 25th amen.
Maybe Trump will be busy dreaming of people to write pardons for his family and friends.
I almost forgot, raising money to live on. So far he has raised over $200 mil.

  17. We need an impeachment vote. Every lawmaker in congress must be required to vote and be accountable to their vote. It is time for America to heal from Trumpism!

  18. If the NEA calls for Trump’s resignation for his inciting the riot at the Capitol, I would think all Trump followers who marched from his rally to the Capitol Jan. 6th are also supporting his try at overthrowing the Electoral vote. The OEA Ohio Education Association board member Kirsten Hill from Lorain County Ohio, TEA Chair, coordinated two busloads of Trump followers, 100 people, to participate in the protest. Because she was there and participated in the riot, I believe the OEA needs to ask Kirsten Hill to resign.
