McConnell confirms more judges, refuses to act on COVID-19

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) continues to focus on confirming conservative judges even as COVID-19 reaches new heights—nearly 12 million cases and a quarter-million deaths—and the expiration of previously enacted relief looms. Measures that expire at year’s end include the suspension of student loan payments, a nationwide moratorium on evictions, and enhanced benefits for more than 13 million unemployed million Americans—a number that is expected to increase in coming weeks due to the resurgence of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the need for coronavirus relief grows ever more urgent. The HEROES Act—first passed by the House in May and updated in October—fulfills key NEA goals: at least $175 billion to stabilize education funding and provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for students and educators and at least $12 billion in emergency funding to narrow the digital divide and close the homework gap. As many as 16 million students—1 in 3—are unable to do schoolwork at home due to lack of internet access and devices. A disproportionate share of those students are Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, and live in rural areas or low-income households. Relief for student loan borrowers is also among NEA’s top priorities.

Promising news on the vaccine front will not lead to a quick fix. Two companies, Pfizer and Moderna, have announced highly encouraging results—as much as 95 percent efficacy—in vaccines created with cutting-edge technology and U.S. government support to speed development and distribution. The Food and Drug Administration has not yet approved either vaccine and even if it does so soon, the general public will not have access to them for months—spring, at the earliest. Both vaccines require two shots and must be stored at extremely low temperatures, which will complicate distribution and administration.

Email your senators and tell them to take action now.

  1. Mitch McConnell is a one-man wrecking ball to democracy. He has conducted himself as a dictator going back to Obama’s last term. He has done nothing to move House bills forward for debate, let alone a vote in the Senate, but has wasted no time in approving Trump’s/Federalist Society recommended federal judges.

He needs to be removed from his influence, authority, and control of the Senate, but that will only happen if the Georgia runoff election goes for the two Democratic nominees of Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Remember, bills with a 50-50 split vote in the Senate goes to Vice President Harris for the tiebreaker. Georgia is HUGE!!!

That runoff election takes place on January 5th, 2021 and early voting starts in a week. Please encourage all friends to get engaged with these two candidates in Georgia and support them in any way you can. Help save OUR democracy!

  2. Which one is the puppet, McConnell or Trump? One lies and the other swears to it. Neither King wannabe cares about the American people they were elected and sworn to protect and serve. They care only about remaining in power in order to enrich themselves and their friends. They
want only to keep the “peasants” in their place. They’ve got it backwards. We’re the Lords, they’re the servants. It’s about time we have “term limits”
for our senators and congressmen. Two terms is time enough to get the job done. Less bickering and stonewalling and more work. Our forefathers did not intend the positions to be a lifetime career.

  3. I really don’t understand why people tiptoe around the reality that Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is simply one of the Senate versions of Stephen Miller. Their greatest fear is the miriad “others” who don’t look like them.

  4. Biden would pass a relief bill. One would think that Trump would also, in order that he get the credit for rescuing us, rather than Biden. McConnell would pass probably pass it if Trump wanted it. But NO! This is so stupid I can’t stand it. It’s the people’s money – use it to help them. Trump and McConnell act like it’s their money. Trump hardly pays any income tax.

    1. Actually, Trump has been trying for at least a month to get money to people for that EXACT reason, and #MoscowMitch has REFUSED to bring up another Covid relief bill.

  5. Promising news on the vaccine front will not lead to a quick fix. We must move forward and effect a process to inoculate 70-plus percent of the nation.

  6. might as well call him president mcConnell…he seems to run the show. He is the poorest excuse for a human let alone a senator in charge. So sad that congress will not stand up to him and his corruptness. I never got over him saying over and over that he was going to make sure that Obama was a one term president. Why was he able to get away with that? and Kentucky just keeps on voting him in.. must be giving them all $$$ or something,,, he is so bad for this country. He might actually be worse than trump!! The Republican party does not exist any more it is truly the party of mcConnell and trump! Hardly recognize this country any more. Cannot wait for Biden/Harris to take over only hope I can see. Love them!

    1. Please act on the judgment to fund the people to h a ng on. We are so close to being back to normal. I thank Mr. MCCONNELL needs to be impeached. He is the one who knows better about trying to destroy our democracy. He is the evil one who cares less about the people in USA.

  7. I pray for each and every Republican figure that God will speak to your hearts because people are dying while you all are playing games and living in luxury.

  8. It’s a shame that the South didn’t secede from the Union back in the 1860s. So many Southern politicians since then have burdened this nation with their reactionary agendas. Kentucky wasn’t in the Confederacy, but it has a distinctly Southern aspect. And Mitch McConnell is an evil scumbag.

  9. Between Mitch, Lindsay, Susan and of course Betsy De

Between “Mosciw” Mitch, “Lenin” Lindsay, Susan and of course our own Idiot Betsy I’m not sure which is number 1 on the “S*** List!!!!!

  10. Has Senator McConnell come face to face or spoken to parents of children who have lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus pandemic and are still waiting for approval of unemployment benefits and support from our government as well as their federal tax returns? These people and their children are falling into debt and are facing the loss of their homes because our politicians cannot stop the partisan fighting among themselves to start fighting for the lives of their constituents! Please get your priorities straight because the future of our country depends on it!!!

  11. This is a historically significant time in U.S. History. The GOP really needs to take a look at the “average household” instead of focusing on their own status and will of the rich. Give us a break and get on with the real business of helping families cope with Covid-19 and the economy! How in the world did Republicans ever get reelected?

  12. McConnell, AKA Grim Reaper you shall go down in American history as a Stalinist-hearted politician. May you be on your way out in the near future.

  13. Lest we ever forget where the priorities of the GOP lie, so way beyond the needs of addressing America’s real problems. Real Americans are hurting over this Trump/Moscow Mitch enhancing the spread of COVID-19 by their inaction along with their dastardly actions.

    1. Mitch is indeed the grim reaper, caring not for the oath he took to protect and serve, meaning his constituents, not just himself as he has ignored every opportunity to present every bill passed by the house to serve Americans, and instead has served a criminal , lying president who has used his office to do harm to the American people including hiding the truth of a deadly virus giving misleading and contradicting info to the point of being a mass murderer of thousands of innocent Americans with Mitch complicit as the numbers climb and bad examples are set and people die. Trump has called out to his white supremists to kill innocent victims because of t concerts, theatres, food vests, stynagogues Mosques, offices, etc, the kidnapping attempted killing bog Democratic Governors, and public officials not agreeing with him and Mitch ids complicit. Mitch needs to go just as trump does.

  14. McConnell is a joke and embarrassment as are all Republicans that stay silent. No backbone. How anyone can continue to be harassed and intimidated by 45 is beyond me. Your character is more important than you political party. You’ll gain more respect by doing what’s right.

  15. One more reason we need to prioritize more robust history and civics education! It’s shameful how facts have been twisted to support a corrupted vision of what our country is or should be. McConnell is echoing the priorities of the South during the Civil War and Reconstruction, using “law” to curb the rights of people who are not part of the ruling class, those who are expendable — otherwise labeled as essential workers.
