Educators for Joe
Steady, informed, compassionate leadership has never been more important—our schools and our nation deserve nothing less. That’s why NEA recommends Joe Biden for president.
After nearly four years of Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos’s anti-public school agenda, educators are ready to elect a president who’s with us. Joe Biden believes, as NEA does, that all students—black, brown, and white—deserve a great public education no matter where they live, what language they speak at home, or how much money their parents have.
Joe has a deep connection to the work of educators and uniquely understands and respects how critical our ESPs are to students’ daily lives. In fact, he was once a school bus driver himself. And with Dr. Jill Biden, an educator and NEA member, as first lady, educators will have not only a friend but also a colleague in the White House.
Educators know Joe will fight for the resources schools need, starting with tripling funding for Title I and IDEA and nominating a public school teacher to lead the U.S. Department of Education. He believes in boosting educator compensation, including educators in policymaking, and protecting educators’ and students’ rights.
Educator pay
Joe supports raising educator pay: “I want the American people to understand that it is overwhelmingly in their best interest that we pay teachers fairly.”
Choosing an Education Secretary
Joe Biden will fire Betsy DeVos: “It’s really important that we have someone who’s actually been in the classroom…and include educators in the making of the policy.”
Immigration reform
Joe will create a pathway to citizenship, starting with Dreamers: “We’re who we are because of immigration.”
IDEA and Title I
Joe plans to triple IDEA funding: “It’s against the interest of the country that we don’t spend the money we committed to do, to give children who come to school with some disabilities, to be able to learn as much as they’re capable of learning.”
Racial & economic inequality
Joe will invest in all students: “I would make sure that we understand the moment the child is born no matter their color, their race, or their background they all have an equal shot. That’s why we would start with universal pre-K.”
Charter schools
Joe wants to hold charter schools accountable: “No privately funded charter school will receive a penny of federal money. None.”
