House appropriators grilled Education Secretary Betsy DeVos at a contentious Feb. 27 hearing. The Trump/DeVos budget proposal for fiscal year 2021, released earlier this month, would slash education funding by $6.1 billion—8.4 percent—compared to the amount Congress provided this year, which included significant increases in key programs like Title I and IDEA. Other budget lowlights include cutting and replacing key education programs with a block grant, robbing public schools of resources with yet another voucher scheme, and ending public service loan forgiveness.
Tell your senators and representative to stand up for students and educators and reject these reprehensible proposals.

Every educator also needs to contact everyone they know, work with, or interact with and share the destruction that this administration is doing to the education of our children. Senators please work to improve student and educators schools by recommending no cuts to public schools and teacher pay. Put human being before profit. The key to learning and teaching is to provide money that’s been voted on to help students, teachers and parents.

Our students are our future. When you continue to take money away from our most valuable resource, there will be nothing of our country left. We need to meet the needs of ALL students, not a chosen few. You are actually disgusting to have accepted this position considering you had no qualifications and now have no desire to learn about what and how students need to learn. Education cannot withstand any more budget cuts. The mental health needs of our students alone indicate the need for more money to hire more social workers and counselors. Without their support, these children will become adults that cost the nation much more when they become adults as it would if we used early intervention to help them and their families. We are already underfunded, why would she propose more cuts to education. Most likely to push forward her charter school agenda.
As a public school teacher in two Title I schools, I can barely teach on what I receive not. The money that I do receive, I have to split between two classrooms. Nevermind that I have the same amount of students in each classroom who need the same amount of resources.
This is my 19th year teaching and it’s getting harder and harder. The Secretary of Education for the United States should be someone with experience in that field, not one of the president’s cronies.
Betsy DeVos simply needs to be stopped. She needs to go away. Trump needs to go away. Once gone, we can have responsible and effective people appointed to positions that can truly make a difference for our public schools and our students.
So again we will shortchange our children’s future, for more money for what! Education is the key to our nation’s success. Hopefully the congress can get it RIGHT!!!

For example, the petrochemical industry in Pennsylvania continues ot get huge tax breaks and subsidies from the governement. Isn’t that Socialism?
I don’t want the dollars I paid in taxes to go to building the petrochemical industry that will push us over the brink into climate catastrophy sooner. I want to support better schools and colleges! The teachers should be recognized with better pay and there should be more resources for the studdents, especially at the youngest ages.
My daughter is a 7th grade Math Teacher and is now looking to leave the profession for another career. She is frustrated with large class sizes, low pay (in regards to how many hours she actually spends in preparing for classes and grading papers), and now they are asking them to be social workers, counselors on top of their regular teaching duties. She sees no commitment from the State or at the Federal level in investing in Public Education!

Public Education has so much money removed over several years, but yet our students learn in spite of a government that does not support them. Many dedicated teachers give so much of themselves to be sure students are cared for and taught. This is a political problem which it should not be. These children are our future. Not every child has the same chances because the government does not respect them. Also, the government does not respect teachers in public schools either. DeVos has no understanding about education and has no business making education decisions about children in this country. A real disgrace to our country.
The things Ms. DeVos doesn’t know/understand about public education would fill volumes. And, the things Ms. DeVos doesn’t know/understand about public education disqualify her from holding the position she currently holds.
The only thing Ms. DeVos knows anything about/understands is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. She should be removed from office before she does more harm to American public education.
We would benefit from having someone appointed that understands that investing in our schools is synonymous with investing in our future. It’s so obvious to those of us who understand this basic truth that we have to wonder why DeVos and her like-minded others don’t “get it.” Why have such an opposing agenda than what the majority believes would serve as a key to success for our children? More money, not less. More resources, not fewer. Doing what’s right has nothing to do with the political agendas of many. Political goals have nothing to do with wise and fair choices for our children. You know this! Don’t you?

After being taken to court by an organization, due to her lying and breaking laws, in regard to loan forgiveness and not stopping to collect from these students, which were defrauded by the chain of private colleges, owned by Corinthian Colleges, why is she still EVEN in this position?! Trump, since being in office, has fired and replace a handful of the head governmental employees of departments, YET, he just wants to turn a blind eye to the damage this woman is causing to THE HARD WORKING CLASS OF AMERICA!! Prior to being elected, he filled the media with ALL the things he was “going to do for the student loan debt crisis,” which the little he did- ONLY MADE IT WORSE for low middle class workers, who went to college, worked hard, and received an education and degree, like me- so believe me when I say- he only caused more damage to young Americans trying to make something of themselves, and he actually has made it harder for kids to go to pay for college (if their parents are hard working middle class Americans). As if all of that isn’t bad enough, now he is going to continue to allow this evil person to basically tear down the education system, which Americans and the taxpayers have worked so hard to fight for and build up!!! Grants and vouchers mean more bureaucratic nonsense. It takes freedom away from the different areas and needs of schools across the nation to use their education funds to meet the problems facing their particular state. The current administration is not in touch with the services we provide throughTitle I, Medicaid, and Medicare funds that support our students and their families.
