Employee Free Choice Act

Paychecks are down, health care costs are up and America's workers are stuck in the middle. That's why they need the opportunity to organize in labor associations that will work to improve their lives. Workers in unions earn 28 percent higher wages on average and are 62 percent more likely to have employer-paid health coverage.

The Employee Free Choice Act will give workers a stronger voice, letting them more easily join a union. It would end such practices as employers making their employees vote twice on union membership, or in some cases, navigating an even longer, more frustrating processes.

A majority in Congress supports the act and momentum is growing among Americans who are concerned about the economy and want to restore the middle class. It likely comes as no surprise that the loudest opponents to the Employee Free Choice Act are corporations trying to prevent their workers from having a better standard of living in order to fatten their own bottom line. The same CEOs who demand pay and benefits through a contract prevent their employees from having contracts of their own.
