You can help fight for funding for your special needs students.

Forty years ago, federal lawmakers transformed how we educate our special needs students with the passage of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). They committed to pay 40% of the excess cost of educating students with special needs.

But the federal government has never met even half of that obligation. Now, the chronic underfunding of IDEA has forced states and districts to cut elsewhere to meet the law’s mandates.

NEA is working to support bipartisan efforts to increase funding for IDEA. But it is an uphill battle given the Trump administration’s funding priorities, and the Trump-DeVos agenda to drain resources from public education.

We need your help. Please consider sharing your story about how the chronic underfunding of special education affects your students and your school.

Submission of your entry constitutes permission for NEA to use your name, story, and other submitted information in connection with NEA’s advocacy for IDEA funding. We may, for example, provide compilations of your comments to national leaders and other individuals participating in our efforts, without disclosing email addresses.
